Post-Walk, Let’s Talk ROC

Post-Walk, Let’s Talk ROC

So many thanks to everyone who came out to support the ROC walkouts – a whole lot of people gave a whole lot of time, and we got a whole lot of things to pass on to our legislators as they finalize the budget! We had students, faculty, and staff contacting legislators at several campuses, either digitally or by writing postcards explaining the writer’s reason for funding the CTCs, which is exciting, as is copying multiple hundred postcards to bring down to Olympia – more on that in a minute.

Media Coverage

There’s a fair amount, from some fairly far-flung sources. We are still looking for some pieces we know were done (and thanks to everyone who talked to reporters!) but some of our largest circulation was through the Seattle Times article and KIRO 7’s piece. We know KOMO and KING were out, and that KUOW and Q13 covered it, but we’re going to have to get their footage directly from the stations.

We’re keeping an updated list on the ROC website. If you know we’re missing something, send a heads up to me at cmarabetta@aftwa.org and I’ll add it in.

Photos

We also have dozens of photos from UORs, members, and students! Thanks to everyone who took pictures; you can review our Facebook album here, and I’m still moving photos to Instagram as well. If you have photos, we’d love to get copies. Send them to cmarabetta@aftwa.org and I’ll add them to the coverage as well.

Postcards

I mentioned that we got hundreds of postcards signed. Now it’s time to bring them to the budget negotiators! We are planning to do that on Monday, April 29, at 2:30 PM at the Sundial at the Capitol. If you want to be part of this, please reach out to me at cmarabetta@aftwa.org and we’ll get you on the list. It’ll be a big lift to have members help with that, and we are also inviting students to support this. Let us know if you can join us!
