The legislative session has gotten off to a good start. Working with Washington Education Association (WEA) and the Washington State Labor Council (WSLC) we’ve met with key legislators, got more legislators signed on to our bill than we expected, and have begun local lobby days. It’s been a busy couple of weeks!
It’s about to get busier.
This Tuesday, January 29th, we have our first hearing for not only our funding bill HB 1300, but also our counseling bill HB 1355. We need a good showing in order to let the committee and the legislature know that we’re not playing around. Our CTCs need funding, and we need to make sure they hear that message loud and clear.
Come down to the John L. O’Brien building in Olympia on Tuesday, at 1pm, outside of Hearing Room B. Wear your AFT blue, and show your support!
Can’t make it? That’s ok, we all have jobs. You can e-mail the committee members and tell them why, and how much, you support these bills. You can also join us every Tuesday in Olympia for local lobby days. Check below for the current schedule, and don’t forget, you can always call or e-mail Sandra Toussaint (206-427-8107, stoussaint@aftwa.org).
